BACK TO SCHOOL
August 11, 2007
It’s been almost three months since I started going back to school. Yes I’m studying now. In Ateneo. I’m taking up a diploma course in photojournalism. Why? Why not?
I believe there is still so much to know in this craft that I am into and everyday is still a learning experience for me. In an industry where anyone now can be called a “photojournalist”, we need to professionalize the profession in order to gain a little respect and integrity.
The class is fun but very time consuming. We are a class of twelve students coming from different fields of interest. There’s this TV director and another is an environmentalist.
Most of the classes are conducted online and we need to chat at least once a week to meet with the teacher. There are two weeks allotted for on campus lectures where different speakers are invited to share their knowledge to the students.
Two weeks ago we were privileged to have Miss Alison Morley from the International Center of Photography and DJ Clark from Panos Pictures.
As I’ve said earlier, the class has been on going for almost three months now and so far it is quite interesting and refreshing to the mind. It feels good to be a student again. It feels even better to know that I am studying now because I want to learn and I enjoy the subject and not because I am pressured to graduate on time in a grueling five-year course.
